Best Homemade Play Dough Recipe

Every month where SJ goes to preschool they have a different family make the play dough for the room. A form of parental envelopment I guess. :) Well we made orange, given it is for using throughout the month of October.

But, since SJ has been so well behaved, did a great job last night at church and has been very helpful with her little Sister, H-Bug, I decided I would surprise her when she got home from school today with her own batch. This time PURPLE! I know she's going to love it!

Here is the recipe. It doesn't take long to make, and honestly even though the directions say to mix separately, I mixed the wet ingredients first in my pan and then add the dry and then mixed. It worked perfectly.

Play Dough Recipe

3 Cups Flour
1 1/2 Cups Salt
6 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
3 Cups Water
Food Coloring
3 Tablespoons Oil

Mix the dry ingredients.
Mix the wet ingredients.
Blend both mixes.
Stir over low heat until it forms a ball.
Knead  bit; let cool.
Store in plastic bag.

I let it cool on freezer paper and then knead it when it has cool off enough to touch - which wasn't more than 3-5 minutes after I took it off the stove. I wouldn't recommend saving it for longer than 1 month - gets yucky and germ filled by then.

Enjoy!

Cute and Handy Kitchen Measurement Chart!

I like to have things handy. I like to bake. I also want things that look cute and match my decor. A while back I received in the mail a real estate agent's card and a hideous, albeit practical, kitchen measurement card. This has sat in the junk drawer until I was cleaning house and had a great little idea. Magnets!

Here's What You Need:
Computer Paper, Self adhesive magnet strips, Scrapbook paper, self laminating sheets, scissors or cutting tool.

Here's How I Made my super cute and functional Kitchen Measurement Card and Oven Temperature Guide:

1. Print out and cut to size charts.
2. Mount on Scrapbook paper that matches your decor. (I used pieces left over from another project!)
3. Laminate with do-it-yourself laminate sheets.
4. Attach strip magnets to the back side.
5. Hang on your fridge! Voila! You're done.

Kitchen Measurements

It's 2 am: Do you know where your children are?

I crave sleep. There is something about being a Mom -and certainly a single parent- that makes you crave it more than ever. And tonight is no different. I'm exhausted.

Last night I had over twenty friends and kiddos for a fall kickoff party. I stayed up late talking, smiling and enjoying the night as the first fall breezes were felt. Fast forward to now. Dishes have been done and we played all day. I was finally able to watch the season premier of Grey's Anatomy! By myself! Kids were asleep.

That is until I heard my little H-Bug stand up in her crib and say calmly, "GROOOSSSS!" I don't know about in your house, but in mine gross is synonymous with poop. Not to mention she's been battling diaper rash so I'm on the poop patrol. I change her. As we are making our way back to her crib she smiles up at me, tells me "Down Mama" and proceeds to the play kitchen. It's 2 am and I'm making pretend cupcakes with my 1 year old. Sleep can wait. :)

Welcome!

I've gone and done it. After much thought, deliberation and encouragement from friends and family I'm launching my own blog! This last year of my life has been crazy and I hope this blog will be a place to share with friends and family and anyone else musings about life, tutorials on sewing and craft projects and much more.
